Ourika Valley · Nine rooms · 45 minutes from Marrakech

A house of nine rooms, and a river.

An old kasbah rebuilt in earth plaster and cedar at the foot of the High Atlas. The Ourika runs below the garden; the nearest road is a walk away. Three nights is the shortest stay we offer.

Dar Assif was a ruin on the riverbank when Leila and Tom Haddou bought it in 2014. It took six years and a village of craftsmen to rebuild: tadelakt walls polished by hand, cedar ceilings carved in Fez, zellige cut one tile at a time. Nine rooms share one courtyard and two hectares of olive and walnut.

Questions

Before you write.

How do we reach Dar Assif?

Fly to Marrakech Menara. Our driver meets every arrival; the drive is 45 minutes and is included. The last stretch is a short walk over the footbridge, and a mule brings the bags.

Is there a minimum stay?

Three nights. Over Christmas, New Year and Easter, five. We close in July and August, when the valley is too hot to enjoy.

Are children welcome?

Yes, in the Pool Pavilion and two of the Courtyard Rooms. The Cedar Suites are kept for guests over twelve, because of the roof terraces.

What is included in the rate?

Breakfast at any hour, the airport transfers, the first hammam ritual, the guided walk to the falls, and mint tea whenever you sit down. Dinner and the cellar are charged as taken.

Can we take the whole house?

Up to 22 guests, for three nights or more, from €7,800 a night with all meals. Write with a season and we will send a letter with what is possible.
